Kyrenia Set against the stunning backdrop of the Besparmak (Five Finger) Mountains, Kyrenia (Girne) is regarded as one of the Mediterranean’s most picturesque towns and is now North Cyprus’ most popular resort. It’s beautiful scenery, its tranquil waters, rocky coves and sandy beaches, not to mention the historic monuments to bygone eras are enough to inspire the poet in all of us. In fact Kyrenia has always been popular with artists and writers. It was in the peaceful setting of the beautiful 13th century Bellapais Abbey that Lawrence Durrell wrote his “Bitter Lemons of Cyprus”. The stunning fairy-tale castle of St. Hilarion, perched atop the rocks of the Besparmak Mountains over 2,000 feet above Kyrenia, is rumoured to have been the inspiration for Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle. Famagusta Originally a fishing village, Famagusta rapidly evolved and was formerly a major commercial centre of trade between east and west. From the Lusignans who crowned their Kings in the beautiful St. Nicholas Cathedral, to the Ottomans who later converted it to a mosque, each century has left its mark on Famagusta. The Old City’s narrow streets are full of small shops, where locals display their wares, from fine examples of silver, copper and ceramic work, tofresh fruit and vegetables, not to mention the finest pastries and lokum (Turkish Delight) on the island. The area is also famous for its sandy Caribbean like beaches.
The Karpaz Peninsula is very different from the rest of Cyprus, its wildlife, to a great extent, protected. It is not yet touched by encroaching development and is known as the nature reserve of the island. The area once was of the largest baronies under the Lusignans in the Middle Ages. The ancient ruins, towns, tombs, temples and basilicas complete with paintings and mosaics blend beautifully with nature. We have selected three of the nicest examples of the few Eco Tourism establishments to offer you the best of Karpaz Peninsula. These properties are different and have adopted Ecological Tourism ethos and designed and engineered their project with this principle in mind. They offer accommodation at a good standard and surrounded with many traditional values and try to bring you best of both worlds in this beautiful part of the country without compromising from today’s essential comforts. Combining any of the two or three is very easy just let us know your preferred departure dates and the durations you may wish to stay in each hotel you chose from our portfolio and we will do the rest. We can arrange transfers between two hotels or arrange a car hire where you can pick up from one resort and drop it off on the other to provide you flexibility and freedom. The choice is yours!
