Although it is Italian, over the centuries Sicily's proud and passionate people have developed and preserved a distinct culture, combining the history of the many civilisations that have left their mark on the island.
Sicily has a wealth of breathtaking sights: picturesque Taormina, almost hanging on to the cliff tops; busy narrow cobbled streets with designer shops, cafes and restaurants; coastal towns such as Marazzo, nestling between dramatic hills, offering small but beautiful pebble beaches and creating a great atmosphere for a relaxing quality holiday. Sicily is also home to the tallest active volcano in Europe, Mount Etna.
It's visible from miles around on a clear day, but at other times the volcano is hidden by mist and clouds, adding further to its fascination and charm. Sicily is renowned for its fabulous food and for the variety of fresh local dishes, a fusion of Italian, Greek and Arab cuisines.
